About 400 years ago, around the end of the Ashikaga era, the founder Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu retired to Hayashizaki shrine at Murayama in the present prefecture of Yamagata. He had an exquisite revelation from the divinity about sword techniques and founded Hayashizaki Musō Ryū, also called Jūshin Ryū.
Since the divine art of the founder, the following masters added original techniques to the ancient ones, and by the seventh headmaster Hasegawa Chikara no Suke Eishin, the school had taken the name Musō Jikiden Eishin Ryū.
Afterwards, it became the specialty of the Tosa Clan and was transmitted exclusively inside that clan. However, at the time of the seventeenth headmaster Ōe Masamichi Hanshi, the school started to be taught outside too, and efforts were made to spread it widely.
It had been transmitted recently by master Miura Takeyuki.
