Abandoned San Antonio - Highway 16 Raceway

This is a drone video flyover of the old Highway 16 raceway, also known as San Antonio Speedway. It was closed in 2007, because of the new zoning laws that occurred after the Toyota plant was built. Because of the zoning issues, the "noise restrictions" would not permit any other investor to re-open the track because of encroaching residential expansion. Hundreds of thousands of people remember this old raceway back in the day, because not only did they get to watch some really cool races on this track, but also Alamo Dragway (1/4 mile dragstrip) used to be behind it, and if you were lucky enough to get a space at the top of the bleachers, you could also watch the drag races as well. The Alamo Dragway installation has since been destroyed, and as you can see by this video, the area where it used to reside has been bought, sold, and developed by other businesses. A sad blow to a great old track where greats like Big Daddy Dawn and Shirley Muldowney used to race.
