Indian playback singing legend and classical musician Dr. K. J. Yesudas demonstrates the differences between South Indian Classical (Carnatic), North Indian Classical (Hindustani) and Arabic styles of singing to Shan Chandrasekar on the Canadian ATN channel's Asian Horizons TV.

For the demonstration he uses a musical scale that is congruent with the Phrygian mode and corresponds to the Carnatic Raga called Todi (a.k.a Hanumatodi - the 8th Mela or parent scale within the 72 Mela Ragas of the Melakarta system), which in turn has a scale structure similar to that of the Hindustani Raga Bhairavi and also that of certain Arabic Maqam (Maqam Kurd?).
