Moving over to China, where concerns have been rising over a potential outbreak of new infectious respiratory diseases.
Following a request for information by the WHO, a spokesperson from China's National Health Commission said Sunday that a novel virus was not behind the wave of illnesses and that influenza is the main cause, followed by rhinoviruses, pneumonia, RSV, and the adenovirus.
While some experts have said that the current conditions are due to the lifting of COVID-19 lockdown restrictions as exposure to common pathogens had been minimized during lockdown outside scientists are asking for the situation to be closely monitored.
