Inside the LEANING TOWER of PISA 🇮🇹 | Italy’s Field of Miracles

PISA, ITALY: Exploring the Field of Miracles (Campo dei Miracoli) & taking a look inside Pisa Cathedral, the Baptistery, the Old Cemetery & the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.

On my final afternoon in Tuscany I planned to stop by the Leaning Tower of Pisa and make it all the way up to the top. Tickets were available to purchase online & I had read up about the history & design, including the small matter of why the tower started leaning in the first place. When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there is much more to see and do than just the old leaning bell tower - there’s an entire complex of historical buildings and architectural wonders called the Field of Miracles.
The Field of Miracles is the name given to Pisa Cathedral (Cattedrale di Pisa) and all of its grounds, including the old cemetery (Camposanto), the famous leaning tower which is actually a belltower for the cathedral, a baptistery (Battistero di San Giovanni) & a museum. There’s an ancient city wall closeby and plenty of grass to sit on to enjoy the view.
Is it touristy? Yes, but for good reason! The Leaning Tower of Pisa has to be the most famous tower on the planet and to see it in real life is without doubt a pleasure. I was lucky to be able to buy a ticket and explore inside the leaning tower before climbing the steps to the top. Once there the views across the city are breathtaking and you realise just how much the tower actually leans! Fascinating and a brilliant way to end my trip to Italy.
