There's more than one way to charge a cat!  Rather than rubbing, two aluminum spheres are charged by induction with a nearby charged teflon rod.  The charge on the sphere is shown through repulsive forces, attractive forces (although those could be due to polarization), and we see the charge jump back in a small arc when  the spheres are discharged.
