We are planning, constructing and operating light rail today to ensure the Canberra of tomorrow - with a population of 500,000 by 2030 - can move easily and continue to enjoy Canberra as one of world’s most liveable cities.

The Gungahlin to City light rail alignment saw a successful operation with more than one million passenger boarding in the first three months. En route to this success, the ACT Government is now progressing with building light rail to Woden.

The project will occur in two stages - City to Commonwealth Park (Stage 2A) and Commonwealth Park to Woden (Stage 2B).

The ACT Government is now delivering light rail to Commonwealth Park (Stage 2A) as the first component of finalising the north-south spine to Woden. This 1.7km extension, due to commence operations in 2024, will see three new stops added to the network and will help move an extra 3,000 passengers daily within the first year of operations.

The project scope includes:
     - Three new stations, with stops at City West, City South and Commonwealth Park
     - 1.7kms of double track, with an integrated ticketing system
     - Four new light rail vehicles
     - Power supply and transmission, with 100% renewable energy being used to power operations.
     - Traffic signalling, road improvements and tree plantings.

Got questions about the project? We will be stopping at the #Floriade in Commonwealth Park, from 8th to 13th October 2019, between 9:30am-5:30pm every day. Join us for free activities, a virtual tour of our expanding network and a quick chat with our subject matter experts to understand the design and build of one of the biggest transport infrastructure projects in Canberra.
