Marquis Hill feat. by WDR BIG BAND - Ego vs Spirit

The WDR Big Band feat. Marquis Hill with his composition "Ego vs Spirit" in a big band arrangement by Florian Ross. Solos are played by Marquis Hill and Ruud Breuls on trumpet and Hans Dekker on drums. Recorded during the dress rehearsal at the WDR Funkhaus (May 2019).

Marquis Hill, with his groovy and impulsive trumpet tone, is one of the most promising "youngsters" on the American East Coast.  He has worked with jazz greats such as Marcus Miller and Joe Lovano, among others, and also maintains his own band, "Blacktet." Marquis Hill has managed to successfully cross the boundaries between musical genres with his musical playing. His compositions include contemporary as well as classic jazz, hip-hop and R&B, but also Chicago house and neo-soul.  Hill himself says of this, "They all come from the same tree, - they just blossomed from different branches."
