King Janak gets disappointed when none of the kings present, at the swayamvar, were able to lift the Shiv Dhanush. Laxman announces that his elder brother Ram can easily lift the Shiv Dhanush. To save Sita's honour, Sage Vishwamitra asks Ram to lift the Shiv Dhanush. The kings present at the swayamvar get shocked when Ram not only lifts the Shiv Dhanush but also breaks it. Sita puts the garland around Ram's neck. Lord Parashurama barges inside the palace and angrily questions the kings who broke the Shiv Dhanush. Sage Vishwamitra recognises Lord Parashurama. Ram states that he broke the Shiv Dhanush. In anger, Lord Parashurama states that he is going to kill everyone present in the palace. Laxman tells Lord Parashurama that the Shiv Dhanush was old and hence it broke when Ram lifted it. Sage Vishwamitra requests Lord Parashurama to forgive Ram and Laxman. Ram apologises to Lord Parashurama on behalf of Laxman. He also tells Lord Parashurama that he broke the Shiv Dhanush.

Ramayanam is a daily serial broadcast in ZEE Tamil. The name Ramayana means Rama+Aayana which means the path of the lord. It is one of the largest ancient epics of world literature. This story narrates the life of Rama who is the prince of Kosala Kingdom. There are many versions of Ramayana in Indian languages. Rama has spent fourteen years in the forest along with his wife at the request of his stepmother. He was accompanied by his wife Sita and his brother Laxman, but she was deceitfully kidnapped by Ravana, the King of Lanka. Thus a mighty war took place between Rama & Ravana. Later, Hanuman, a worshiper of Rama, also joins him with his monkey warriors. Will Sita be saved by Ram? This whole story of why he had to go to the forest, how did he marry Sita and what happened after going to the forest is told in this serial.
This serial consists of many episodes and in each episode, the viewers can watch the story. The time duration of this serial is almost one hour. This Ramayanam epic story is originally written by Valmiki in the ancient days consists of 24000 shlokas. Valmiki played an important role in the last chapter of Ramayana where he gives shelter to Sita.
