A sculptor, wall-painter, book-binder, event company volunteer, singer, security guard and a comedian, Sujan Zimba has done it all. He has battled with substance abuse, stigma of rehab centres and his own vices. This is the story of how through winding roads and a lot of detours, Sujan has finally reached where he needed to be.

He was brought up in Swayambhu. During those times, there was this macho-culture of growing up between boys: frequent fights, noses broken, mouths bloodied. He used to get angry easily and quickly, still does. He grew up following a motto: Every action has a reaction. Tit for tat. He had to make the name of his locality famous by winning fights. That is why he assaulted someone with a khukuri. He was alone and scared so he panicked. He now regrets his actions and considers the assault one of the biggest mistakes of his life.

After the assault, he went on the run for 3-4 months. But he wasn’t always like this. Let’s rewind a bit to his schooldays.

He studied in a government school. He was a ‘good student’ cause he could cheat well and he used to sit near the topper students. Eventually, he passed his SLC. He had a girlfriend and he planned to join the same college as her but she joined a college without informing him. He then joined a government college and tried to focus on his studies. Things were going along but he slowly started to lose interest in studying. He started to roam around during class times and get into fights. One day, one of his friends told him that his girlfriend was cheating on him. He then saw his girlfriend on a bike with some other guy. He was heartbroken because they had promised to be together.

After that, he started to do work: wood-carving in the Patan area. Then came the wall-painting job. He even painted the top of the Trauma centre in Tudikhel. Then came a job in the printing press where he had to bind books. It was a physically exhausting job. Then finally, he got a good job in an event company. He used to earn about Rs. 1500 monthly at his previous jobs but now he started to earn Rs. 800-1000 per day in the event company.  But suddenly, he quit his well-paying job and roamed around jobless for 3 years. Why did he quit a good job and sabotage his own life ? Watch the full video..
