Action at Old Sarum airfield during 2017 and 2018. This includes the skydiving operation (Go-Skydive), helicopter and fixed wing flying and the crash of a Vans aircraft.

Video was taken at the end of runway 24.

Old Sarum was built for the Army Air Corps during the first world war in 1917.

The crash was due to the nosewheel collapsing from the previous very hard touchdown resulting in a go-around. The wind was blowing across the runway threshold and giving 10-12mph gusts and wind shear. This caused the Vans RV6A to climb and quickly descent onto the runway threshold splaying the landing gear. The grass runway allowed the damaged nosewheel to dig in at about 25mph and flip the aircraft inverted. The aircraft was lifted up enough for the pilot to escape the cockpit leaving a very damaged aircraft.
