Cows grooming

Brown Swiss cows are the subject of this short video, filmed in the Swiss Alps in summer. Now classed as an American breed, Brown Swiss cattle originated here in Switzerland where their ability to withstand harsh conditions and extremes of heat and cold made them ideal for alpine pastures. In this movie, one cow is seen repeatedly licking another in an apparent grooming action; the cow being groomed seems to be in a kind of trance, perhaps enjoying the attention? The soundtrack of the film is the typical Swiss cow bell, intended to help the farmer locate the cows as they graze. Don’t miss the wild flowers in the background – these cows have a beautiful diet!
