The main storyline of the film Apocalypse Now is the story of the special forces captain Willard, sent into the jungle of Cambodia to stop the mad Colonel Kurz, who commands a detachment of local residents. During the journey with Willard, many strange events happen, and under the influence of the surrounding environment, as he approaches the goal, he gradually loses his sense of reality and ceases to understand what to do next.
It stars Martin Sheen as Captain Willard and Marlon Brando as Colonel Kurtz. Other striking characters include Dennis Hopper's half-mad philosopher photojournalist in the Kurz settlement, and Robert Duval's eccentric air cavalry commander, Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore. Bit roles included such actors as Harrison Ford, Scott Glenn and Laurence Fishburne.
The film became widely known in the press long before its release due to the long and difficult filming process.
