Today, "X" marks the spot where Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant tells us all about the SSA X and SSA-E X two-stage AR-15 triggers from Geissele Automatics. "SSA" stands for Super Semi-Automatic, and the "E" on the SSA-E model means "Enhanced," essentially a lighter trigger pull. It's not a quality difference; the two triggers are just meant for different uses. All Geissele triggers are designed to have a very clean break. As Caleb points out, a clean break is better than a really light pull weight.

Previously, the only way to get an SSA -X or SSA-E X trigger was to buy the Super Duty Rifles they came in. Now, Geissele (and hence Brownells) offers these triggers separately, ready to install in any AR-15 you want to upgrade.

The hammer and the trigger itself have Geissele's special nano-coating, and the disconnector is chrome nitrided, all for exceptional resistance to wear and corrosion. These finishes are also extremely smooth, so they're "self-lubricating" to enhance reliability. But you should still oil an SSA trigger!

Both SSA models have Geissele's Lightning Bow trigger shoe, which is extra wide for solid contact with your finger and gently curved to give you some of the leverage benefits of a straight target shoe. Caleb's won't get into specific pull weight figures. Let's just borrow the old Rolls-Royce approach to horsepower specifications: X-series trigger pull weights are MORE than adequate.
