The highly anticipated GE E60 edition of Engines of Amtrak is finally here! Today I discuss the General Electric E60, the first new electric locomotive built post-Amtrak era in the United States. The E60 originated out of Arizona on an isolated coal hauling railroad known as the Black Mesa & Lake Powell (BM&LP) and the locomotive eventually made it's way to Amtrak for passenger service. However, while expectations were high for the E60 with thoughts it would easily replace the aging GG1 and mechanically-unreliable Metroliner EMU's, the Amtrak E60 didn't fair well in practice due to their six axle freight styled trucks and led to consistent problems. Learn more about the history of the E60 in this video and how it came to be part of Amtrak's history book! Hope you enjoy, thanks for watching, and stay tuned for the Metroliner video. It may be delayed for sometime as summer is ending for me in a couple weeks and school will be back once again. I hope you guys can understand and please be patient waiting for the Metroliner video. I don't devote all my time to this series as I have said before. I have other videos to work on and other personal things to do as well.
