Double Jeopardy laws are usually set in place to protect someone from being hounded for a crime for which they have been proven innocent. In theory this is a good thing, but over the years there have been several cases where they have allowed a dangerous person to walk free having fooled the legal system. One man who did this was Brian Donald Hume, who not only got away with murder but then made money by selling his confession to the highest bidder knowing he couldn't be touched. When this money ran out however, he soon returned to his criminal ways...
