The club, which in the beginning was a meetingplace for critical young musicians among whom was e.g. Wolf Biermann and Bettina Wegner, was beeing instrumentalized by the party as a symbol for a critical but optimistic youth. They turned into the singing messengers of the party.
What are the once prominent young singers, which got so many priviliges from the state, doing nowaday?
They are trading in stamps, are secretairs, state agents, pr-managers...
The filmmakers link the history of the club closely with the history of the GDR and the movements that were seeking alternatives and reforms within the GDR.
The film is deconstructing the image of the club and celebrates at the same time the popularity of the musicians, which they still have in the former GDR.
