The Fall of the mighty Roman Empire, the Crisis of the Third Century, marked the end of an era of prosperity and stability. A time of political turmoil and military anarchy, the empire was plagued by internal conflicts, economic decline, and invasions by barbarian tribes. Short-lived emperors, currency debasement, and high inflation all contributed to the decline. The empire was torn apart by civil wars and rebellions, and the once mighty Roman military was overstretched and unable to defend its borders. The Western Roman Empire collapsed and the Eastern Roman Empire barely survived. But through it all, a glimmer of hope emerged with the reforms of Emperor Diocletian, who managed to stabilize the empire and lay the foundation for the Byzantine Empire.
