Tagging new baby calves

Video and photo montage of our adventures one cold January day tagging calves. The calves must be tagged before they are even a day old, or they'll be too wild and feisty to catch. Tagging is like getting your ears pierced. Without the tag, we don't know what baby belongs to what momma--which is extremely important as we pair them up whenever they have to move pastures or when they head out onto the summer range or come home in the fall. The cheerio we talk about is the elastrator band that helps make steer calves instead of letting them all be bull calves--which would be a disaster. Fun morning documented by photos and videos.
