You might be ready to work on long vowels with your 1st and 2nd grade students, but where do you start? Vowel teams are one way that the long vowel can be made, so it’s important to know when and how to teach these!

In this video, I’ll specifically talk about long “a” vowel teams. I’ll tell you what some of the common ones are and when to teach them. I’ll also give you my top 3 tips on how to to this!

Common ways to spell the long a sound:
- a (like in "baby")
- a_e (like in "cake")
- ai (like in "rain")
- ay (like in "pay")
- "ei" (like in "vein")
- "eigh" (like in "weigh")
- "ey" (like in "they")
- "ea" (like in "great")
