About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to add plugins to a Minecraft server in 1.20.4. So, without anymore delay, here is how to start a server with Minecraft plugins in 1.20.4!
First things first, we will need to download the Paper server file. You can find a link in the description to the Paper download page. That will take you to our text guide for making a Paper 1.20.4 server. Once you are there, click the “Download PaperMC” button to go to the Paper download page. On this page, select “PaperMC” and click the “Download” button under 1.20.4 to start downloading the Paper jar file.
From there, create a “Paper 1.20.4 Server” folder on your desktop. Then, drag-and-drop the paper.jar file you downloaded into this folder. Rename the file you downloaded to simply “paper.jar” as well. Otherwise, you won’t be able to start the server.
We then need to create a new text document and open it. Copy and paste the code from the description above corresponding with the amount of RAM you want to add to your server into this text document. Finally, click “File” and “Save As”. Name the file “run.bat” and change the Save Type As to “All Files”. Save the file, and you will have a run.bat file.
Double click the run.bat file to start your Minecraft server with plugins. The first time you do this, the start-up will fail though. You should now have an eula.txt file. Open this and change “eula=false” to “eula=true”. Save the file, and then double-click the run.bat file again. Your server will start.
Now, you download some plugins for Minecraft 1.20.4 from the link in the description above or from the download page of the plugins you want. Then, add the plugins to the “plugins” folder on your server. Finally, restart the server by stopping it and starting it again. Your plugins will be active! You can make sure the plugins are working on your 1.20.4 Minecraft server by using the “plugins” command in the console. Active plugins will be green. Any plugins that aren’t working will be red.
At this point, you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols in order for your friends to join your server. This sounds complicated, but we go over exactly how to port forward a Minecraft server that has plugins in the video.
