May Gray, June Gloom, No Sky July; all terms that describe San Diego Spring Time weather. Being that San Diego is a coastal city that endures periods of weather that makes the sun non--existent because of low clouds (Marine Layer/Coastal Eddy); this video showcases a sunny blue sky day while walking Coronado, California in San Diego County in Mid April 2024.
See the San Diego/Coronado Bay Bridge from the Boardwalk, the San Diego Bay, Tidelands Park, Ferry Landing, Orange Avenue, Coronado Beach, the Dunes, the Hotel Del Coronado, Downtown San Diego.
Coronado is located across San Diego Bay and extends south along the Silver Strand to neighboring city Imperial Beach. The Island has plenty of history from the Hotel Del Coronado, Orange Avenue/Downtown Coronado, Glorietta Bay, the Ferry Landing, Coronado Beach, and the Military; the city is certainly a jewel among cities in Southern California.
Coronado has a significant military presence being the home to the U.S. Navy at North Island Naval Air Station and the Coronado Amphibious Base. North Island is a training facility for military pilots and is considered the birthplace of Naval Aviation. It is also the home to several air craft carriers and larger naval vessels. Further south on the Silver Strand is the Navy Seals Training Facility for the U.S. Military Elite forces.
Some of the history of this area includes Native American Inhabitants as well as a train that traveled from National City to Imperial Beach, north on Silver Strand to Coronado Island during 1888 to 1971. The Coronado Ferry also began shuttling people from San Diego to the island in 1886. Additionally, the main commercial thoroughfare Orange Avenue is named after the Orange Trees planted along the street.
Orange Avenue just north of the Hotel Del Coronado is lined with shops, restaurants, taverns and restaurants all within walking distance of the bay and beach. The birthplace of Coronado Brewery is here on Orange Avenue near the Ferry Landing. Silver Strand is also an excellent bicycle ride south along the Bayshore Bikeway that link Coronado the it's southerly neighbor Imperial Beach offering along the way even more spectacular views of the bay and neighboring cities of San Diego, National City, and Chula Vista. On a clear day nearby San Miguel Mountain and Otay Mountain is visible from the strand.
Also, just to be aware and stay healthy - there is a water quality issue from sewage drifting north into United States waters from the Tijuana, Mexico River - that is affecting the southern San Diego County beaches including Coronado Beach, Silver Strand, and Imperial Beach. So It is advisable to not swim in the ocean after rain events at beaches that receive urban run off from all over San Diego.
Although, a day on Coronado Island is worth the drive over the San Diego Bay to gain a different perspective of San Diego and enjoy the spectacle that is the Crown City of Southern California.
