By the turn of the 17th Century, widespread resentment existed between the majority Protestant population of Bohemia, and its Catholic Habsburg rulers residing in Austria. Tensions boiled over in 1618, when several Catholic ministers from Vienna were thrown from the palace windows in Prague.
