Transcript for Last Day of School Activities:
Here are some of my favorite last day of school activities. So if you're wondering what to do at the end of the semester or on the last day, check out these options.
Number one is memory book. You can kind of just put some sheets of paper together and make a cover on it and then staple it together and kind of have a little book. And students can draw pictures, kind of do some favorite things they remembered, and then maybe like write a sentence or two about what that is. I like to do this because it's a nice tangible thing that students can take home to kind of just like recap their year.
Another last day of school activity is to do some awards. This works better if you have a class of say like 15 or 20 students that you see all the time. This isn't great to do if you teach classes of 40 and you have like eight classes each semester or something like that. For smaller groups though, when you actually get to know your students quite well so you can give awards like kindest, the best cleanup person, or someone the most helpful, the best writer. There are a million different options.
Another option for the last day of school is to do an autograph book. So it's a little bit similar to the first one. You can make a little book and maybe get students to draw a cover of some kind, class 4A and the teacher or whatever and they can write their name on it. And then students can take turns leaving a little message and autographing each other's books.
Another fun idea for the last day of school is actually three ideas, but they're actually all quite similar. So they are a paper airplane contest to see who can throw their paper airplane the furthest. Another one is the egg drop. You can design a carton or container to put a raw egg in and then you drop it from the roof and see whose egg didn't break. Or you can get students to build the tallest towers, then say at the end of 30 minutes whosever tower stands for 30 seconds or more, that's the tallest, they are the winner. These are all just kind of fun competitions that use some creative skills and you can put students in the teams.
Another great option for the last day of school is thank you notes. I really really love doing this with my students and they enjoy it too so we kind of list all the people that the students might interact with on a daily basis at school. Maybe the principals, the secretaries, their gym teacher, music teacher, the janitors, just kind of whoever the students know that's besides you. And then I write all the names on the board and then I put students into groups, or it depends how many people we are writing notes for and how many people are in the class but I get students to make a thank you card and to say thank you so much for blah blah blah whatever it is that's relevant to them. And then we go around the school and deliver these cards to people.
