Whoever envisioned that the Pikmin 2 soundtrack sound exactly like a Pat Metheny album is a very VERY good person. Insaneintherainmusic's jazz cover / remix of Piklopedia from Pikmin 2, featuring Tyler Jenkins. I'm always surprised by great music from very niche games! I'm even more surprised when that great music comes from a somewhat niche game that I played! I played Pikmin 2 sometime in my middle school while I was borrowing the game from a friend, and fell in love with it. Pikmin 2 managed to take the gameplay that I liked a lot from the original Pikmin, and added many more areas and caves to explore! Pikmin 2 was also my introduction to dynamic video game scores - some of the music in the various cave areas in the game is seemingly randomized from playthrough to playthrough. YouTube uploads certainly don't do this justice, since they're all just linear videos, but playing the game results in a slightly different soundtrack every time, which is pretty cool by me! I don't remember exactly how Tyler introduced this song to me, but I remember discovering it and being blown away that a track like this was even in Pikmin 2. For those who haven't played the game, the Piklopedia is a database accessible from the world map screen in Pikmin 2 that has information on all the treasures and enemies you've encountered throughout your playthrough. A database screen like that somehow had this amazing track composed for it! It's a 5/4 track that I don't think suffers too badly from the 5/4 clave, has some very creative unconventional harmony, and a great melody. Arranging this was a bit of a challenge, which is definitely good for me! I wanted to incorporate a lot of guitar-like textures, so there's electric guitar, nylon guitar, steel string guitar, and ukulele often playing the ostinato or high background lines. I was also inspired by Steve Reich's piece "Piano Phase", so I thought I'd try something out, and use "phase offset" in a few sections of this piece, notably the ostinatos in the guitars at 3:03 and 5:53. The intent is to create an effect that really obscures where beat 1 is in the music, and sort of slip the listeners out of any sense of time! I think this track is also my first flute solo on the channel, and I'm really happy with how it turned out! I haven't been shedding flute super hard as of late, but I really enjoy playing it, it's such a satisfying instrument (and it's especially nice that it doesn't use a reed, so I don't have to worry about maintaining a thin piece of wood). I think that's about all I've got to share! Big thanks to Tyler for working on this song with me, check out his original album if you're newly acquainting yourself to his content! It's seriously great stuff (and he's really young too!) ♫ "Piklopedia" from "Pikmin 2" composed by Hajime Wakai SOCIAL MEDIA: 🐦 Twitter • • • twitter.com/insanerainmusic 📘 Facebook • • • www.facebook.com/Insaneintherainmusic 📷 Instagram • • • instagram.com/insaneintherainmusic ❤️ Patreon • • • bit.ly/supportinsane 👕 Merch (Shirts & CD's) • • • www.hellomerch.com/collections/insaneintherain 🎷 insaneintherainmusic Signature 3D Printed Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece (This affiliate link supports me with your purchase!) www.syos.co/en/artists/carlos-eiene?affiliation=61… ⚙️ Gear • • • kit.com/insaneintherainmusic 💬 Discord Sever • • • discord.gg/Ju97889 🔊 Distrokid VIP Link • • • distrokid.com/vip/insane
