Dr. Azra Raza is an
Dr. Azra Raza is an oncologist, scientist, Professor of Medicine, and Director of the MDS Center at Columbia University. She is deeply moved by poetry, admiring the works of great masters like Shakespeare, Dante, Milton, Mir Anis and Ghalib. She (with her co-author Sara Goodyear) has translated and interpreted Ghalib’s Urdu poetry for English speakers in “A Tribute to Ghalib.”
In her talk on Reading Poetry to Read Ourselves, she reads selected experts from her inspiring book GHALIB: Epistemologies of Elegance, as one of the best English translations of Ghalib including a selection of twenty-one ghazals that illustrate the astonishing range of the preeminent Indian poet Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib's many voices and the ideas that populate his poetry.
