The plot tells about the victory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland over the strongest power of the time - the Teutonic Order. The victory marked the beginning of the Golden age of the Grand Duchy.

Grand Duke Vitovt continued the tradition of his predecessors for a strong army. His army was a combination of heavy knights, along with mobile lightly armed soldiers. In addition to the talent of the commander he was known as a brave and skillful warrior.

To perpetuate the glory of the Grand Duke Vitovt in 1522 was written "the Song of the bison."
