This Is the range of light and dark colors that help to set the tone within a painting, in watercolor the range of value happens with the amount of water used to dilute the color. Value can be used to create a focal point and in general when looking at an object our eyes are immediately drawn to the lightest objects next to the darker ones. The use of value placement is what helps to give form, shape and depth to a subject or the illusion of space and distance.
