I designed and built a step stool 15 years ago. It has lived in our kitchen ever since and is as solid and functional now as it was then. I decided to make another one, and this time document the process with a video.
I had intended originally to do a faithful historic duplicate, but the original shaker stools that I found in books are really quite large --- too large for our average modern house with 8foot ceilings. So I had to scale down the design to just 19 inches tall. So instead of a shaker step stool, it is a shaker inspired design. I'm very happy with the results, and the fact that the original is still going strong at age fifteen is a pretty strong endorsement.
