Oliver Cromwell landed in Ireland in 1649 to re-conquer the country on behalf of the English Parliament. He left in 1650, having taken eastern and southern Ireland, passing his command to Henry Ireton.
Many in Ireland will be familiar with our Irish perspective on Cromwell and his time in Ireland. In this lecture Stuart Orme sets the context for Cromwells controversial Irish campaign in terms of his overall life and political strategy.
Stuart Orme is curator/manager of the Cromwell Museum in Cromwells home town of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire
