Cave-in protection is not required when:
Excavations are made entirely of stable rock. OR
They are less than 4 Feet in depth & Examination of the ground by competent person provides No Indication of a potential cave-in
Protection Options:
Sloping
Benching
Shoring
Shielding
If Excavation is above 20 feet in Depth, Protective System must be designed by an RPE or approved in the manufacturer’s tabulated data.
