Hello everyone! :D
In a stark contrast to the Avro Tudor I highlighted in my episode of Flying Failures, we take a look at an Avro product which ended up being one of the best-selling British commercial airliners in history, the 748, a twin-engined regional turboprop which prided itself on its short-field performance and incredibly rugged durability which made it a favourite among bush airlines and other carriers operating to among the most remote regions of the world.
Unfortunately, 25 years later, the 748's domination of the rugged regional turboprop market was no more, and in a bid to try and reinvigorate the design, British Aerospace created a lightly modified replacement for the model that was meant to take on the likes of the De Havilland Dash 8 and ATR 42, only for the company to completely misread the trend in regional turboprop sales patterns, and thus leading to a monumental failure.
