Backward Compatibility

We've heard of backward compatible software and hardware but what exactly is the definition of backward compatibility? How does it differ from forward compatibility? How do we design or implement backward compatible systems? What are the pros and cons of designing for backward compatibility? What are some interesting real-world examples of such systems? These are some of the questions that this talk will address.
