Here's a commercial for Continental Airlines, with a stewardess (a terminology later replaced with "flight attendant", not to mention "Oriental") (likely Lydia Lei, who was later in "Doctor Detroit" as Jasmine) explaining a new elegant "Golden Dragon Service" that makes stops at Los Angeles as well as Taipei.

She then shows the various cuisine that is served on such flights - and proceeds to serve one of the meals (duck) to Charlie Chan (veteran actor and voice artist Marvin Miller) and Number One Son (Peter Kwong).

(NOTE:  This ad preceded by over a year the making of the film "Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen" with Peter Ustinov as the fabled Chinese detective.)

Ending voiceover by Casey Kasem (with the lower-third on the screen advising such flights as "Starting February 1").

"Welcome to the splendors of the Orient."

This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, February 28th 1979 at approximately 7:20pm.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: [email protected]  Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail [email protected]  Thank you for your help!
