World number two Rafael Nadal lost his first clay court match in last 23 appearances 3-6 6-3 5-7 to compatriot Fernando Verdasco in Madrid Open. The six time French Open champion won the 2010 Madrid Open beating Roger Federer in the final. The 25-year-old Spaniard looked uncomfortable in his first ever blue clay appearance as he lost the first set to 19th ranked Verdasco. In the post match press conference, the king of clay slammed the new blue court of Madrid declaring that he may boycott next year's tournament there. Verdasco will now face World number seven Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in the quarterfinal.
