Latest working status of rehabilitation remodelling of Walton Road drain.The project’s necessity arose due to the recurrent overflow of the airport drain, particularly along the stretch adjacent to Walton Road, leading to the accumulation of sewage water on various sections of this busy 4.5km road. As part of the plan, the contractor will upgrade the sewerage system by incorporating separate conduits for draining rainwater and accommodating the future CBD Square project into the Hadiara and Sattokatla drains. This will alleviate the burden on the airport drain, which already operates at reduced capacity, capable of carrying a flow of 80 cusecs instead of the previous 120 cusecs.
The overflowing drain has caused frequent disruptions on Walton Road, resulting in road accidents and increased travel time. However, with the upgraded sewerage system, there will be no water on Walton Road during the rainy season or under normal weather conditions. The airport drain will also be covered with concrete slabs or by employing any other feasible method,” stated an official source.
