Today, we are visiting a very old market that can be considered historical with my dear friends Burhi and brother Levent. This is the Black market (Naran Tuul Bazaar). The largest and oldest market in Ulan Bator. Levent says we can find everything from needle to thread here.

And since this place is also not very touristic, the prices are generally very cheap. I shot vlogs of similar markets in Thailand. Yes, it was not bad there in terms of price, but this place is really cheap.
As in all Asian countries, there is a habit of second-hand clothing here. You can get the clothes of many high quality and famous brands at very reasonable prices.

How was this market established?

The establishment of the Black Market most likely coincides with the end of the Soviet Union era or the period after the collapse of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, economic transformation took place in Mongolia and the country began to transition to a market economy. During this period, especially in the early 1990s, private entrepreneurship increased in the country and with the liberalization of trade, local markets such as the Black Market emerged.

The Black Market grew rapidly during this period and began to offer a wide range of products. It may have initially started as a market selling basic goods, clothing and food products. However, over time, the diversity of the market increased and both products produced in Mongolia and imported from abroad began to be sold here.
