Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)

When a fertilized egg has grown to between the 4-10 cells, 1-2 of these cells (known as blastomeres) are gently removed from the embryo using a microsurgery technique. The genetic material (DNA) from the removed cell is then analyzed for genetic abnormalities.
