Sinanduloy dominates Sinulog Festival 2020 for 13th title in 20 years

Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe (SCT) displayed its utter dominance once again, claiming the grand championship crown in the Sinulog Festival 2020 season 40 Sinulog Base (SB) category on 19 January in Cebu City.
Known as the dancing pilgrims, SCT, the most dominant cultural troupe in the Sinulog in two (2) decades, won its 13th SB crown in twenty years from 2000 with a 2-year rest in 2018-2019, the years that Sinulog spectators missed the group in that stretch.
Clad in red and white, the team's theme evolves in keeping the traditional faith of the holy Senyor Sto. Nino alive despite the fast changing fads of the modern times that mesmerized some 15,000 grandstand audience in its excellent performance, proving once again that its group is a titan class of its own.
Unlike some other SB contenders, SCT during its ritual presentation, immediately presented its Sto. Nino de Cebu veneration brilliance in the opening salvo and gradually stepped up mightily when it turned its signature moves, expeditious floor formations, graceful dancers usually seen amidst minimal display of props, into a soft transition supported with a strongly perfected pitch choral rendition expressing homage to the holy child while snappingly handling fans, candles and flowers.
The crowd-drawer SCT is never traditional in revealing concept in A-B-C. The choreographers make sure that the beauty of the routine is disclosed in a detailed manner with an awe-inspiring execution as every performer cautiously lined up to the beats of the drums, and so with the heaven-sound of trumpets.
The group from Tangub City of Misamis Occidental supremely reigned in all five criteria - theme/concept/ritual, performance, choreography, costume, props, and musicality.
SCT receives a cash prize total of P2.1M covering the championship prize, P1M for best in street dancing, and P100K for best in musicality proving for an impeccable masterpiece where they showed world class finish.
Its choreographer, Professor Emelio Pascual receives P50K being the best choreographer.
At the end of it all, however, SCT elegantly presented another trend-setting SB idea that left no doubt they still hold the standards of the aces and queens in the annual Visayas-based event.
Its comeback performance was a legendary example of dancing to express not to impress in promoting Filipino's religious culture like the Sinulog.
