Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler - better known as Hedy Lamarr - was born on November 9, 1914 in Vienna, and was the only daughter of a banker and a pianist. Her parents came from Jewish bourgeois families, but her mother, as an adult, converted to Catholicism and raised her daughter in that faith, although she never baptized her. Since she was little, the teachers considered her a gifted: with only five years old, she dared to disassemble a music box and then put it back together again. He was also interested in theater and cinema and, at the age of twelve, he won a beauty contest in Vienna. She soon began to take acting classes and, although she started studying Engineering with only 16 years old, when she got her first small roles in film productions shot in Berlin, she decided to devote herself completely to her acting career, in which when Initially he used his real name, Kiesler.

In 1933, when she was 18 years old, she participated in the Czechoslovakian film 'Ecstasy', very groundbreaking for her time, which gave her international fame for some shots in which she appears running completely naked through a forest and swimming in a lake and a scene in the one that sees her face in the foreground while interpreting an orgasm: it was the first time that the female orgasm was shown in the cinema. In fact, according to the actress, the shots of her without clothes had been taken by the director with a telephoto lens, something for which Hedy had not given his consent, since the director had assured him that it would be blurred by the distance . And, in the orgasm scene, her grimaces were due to someone on the team sticking a pin into her. The tape quickly became famous.

In 1940, at the start of World War II, she learned that the US Government, as it happened in other countries, did not want to develop radio-controlled missiles - a leading technology at that time - for fear that the signals could be easily interfered with. by the enemy and this will deflect the missiles or even turn them against them. So Hedy Lamarr decided to put her scientific knowledge to the service of the United States and invent a radio signal that would jump frequency so that it could not be tracked or blocked.
