Telugu Day is celebrated every year on 29th August every year on the birth anniversary of Sri Gidugu Ramamurthy, who championed the cause of using a language comprehensible to the common man (‘Vyavaharika Bhasha’). He wanted the greatness of the language, to showcase its sweetness, history and literature to be accessible to common people and not be restricted to scholars and elite of society. For teaching Telugu, he wanted the spoken language to be the medium of instruction. Telugu is considered to be one of the ancient Dravidian languages. During the reign of Sri Krishna Deva Raya, Telugu language reached its zenith in terms of literature. Telugu Day is celebrated for the language to be made popular all over the world along with its literature.
