Welcome to Akshara Foundation’s Pratibimba Podcast. In this episode, we have Chikkaveerayya T. N., a 39-year-old Cluster Resource Person [CRP] from Bannikuppe B Cluster, Bidadi, Ramnagara District. He trained as a teacher in Bengaluru Rural Diet and holds an M.A. in Kannada Literature.

Kannada is not only his favourite subject but also his livelihood and passion. He enjoys travelling and reading books as hobbies. Chikkaveerayya dreams of promoting sustainable education, which is currently his main focus. He emphasizes the importance of sustainable development, stating that as a teacher, he has to make children aware of sustainable development and teach them methods to practice it.

He discusses the Karnataka Government’s EDUSAT program, launched in Kalaburagi and Chamarajnagar Districts, which exposed children to education through digital mediums like TV for the first time. He stresses the importance of using natural resources meticulously to impart knowledge, ensuring it can be transferred to the next generation.

He shares his experiences teaching at the Ajjanahalli Government Senior Primary School in Magadi Taluk, where he educated orphaned and underprivileged children about nature and the world through practical experiences like yoga classes on hilltops and teaching in gardens. He mentions his efforts as a CRP to establish a Learning Centre for children who dropped out of school due to the pandemic, helping them pass their 10th exams and enroll in a local Bidadi college for further education.

He expresses his dream of inaugurating school gardens with plants named after martyrs from the Kargil war and establishing a Teachers Learning Centre library for teachers to gain knowledge. He highlights the importance of visiting poets' birthplaces on birthdays to introduce children to their environment. He emphasizes the value of practical experiences over academic achievement and stresses the importance of teachers shaping syllabi based on their classroom experiences.

He draws inspiration from his parents' compassionate nature despite their poverty and emphasizes the need for a deeper human connection in society. He advocates for listening to and learning from children rather than just teaching them.
