A pair of Great Mormon butterflies not quite mating. The Peak, Hong Kong, 23 June 2024.

This large butterfly (Papilio Memnon, a common species in Hong Kong) has a different appearance in the male and female.  The female came to rest under some trees, but the male (blue colouration) didn’t quite manage to settle with her despite a long attempt to do so.  This may have been due to a slight wind at that time.  They were observed on a path leading down from ‘The Governor’s Walk’ at The Peak to the junction of Harlech Road and Lugard Road.
