Tattooing has been widely used by Native Americans for thousands of years. Tattoos were worn as meaningful symbols for a variety of reason including: tribal and clan identity, life experiences, medicinal protection, warrior achievements, and much more. “Their Names as They Are Written – A Closer Look at Southeast Indian Tattooing” will be presented by JP Johnson. Presentation highlights will include traditional symbols, methods and materials used by Cherokees, and other Southeast Indian tribes, during this ancient art form.
