Maria warns Sir Toby that his behaviour is putting him on a collision course with his grieving niece, Countess Olivia. Toby's foolish house guest Sir Andrew Aguecheek enters and declares that any romantic overtures towards Olivia are futile and that he is leaving. Sir Toby, reliant on Andrew's money, convinces him to stay.
