If you have a padlock
If you have a padlock which is susceptible to rust, you can protect it very easy by using a juice bottle.
Cutt down the bottom of the bottle and make a cutt for the latch so the bottle could fit in with ease.
Install the bottle first and then lock up your shed with your padlock.
The bottle will protect the lock and it wont rust quickly.
If you want total protection, lube inside of the lock with WD 40,shake it a bit for the fluid to spread equally in every chamber, than grease it whole with thin layer of lithium grease and then isnstall the bottle as final cover.
With that kind of conservation if you dont want to unlock it again soon, the lock will stay in exactly the same condition as it was when you bought it.
Remwmber that lithium grease is the greatest choice because it wont change its structure, no decomposition, no changing of its chemical state.
