My Internship Experience at Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India

I believe that venturing beyond textbooks and classrooms is essential for gaining practical life and academic experience. My internship at the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, taught me this valuable lesson. Selected among more than 12,000 applicants, I was overwhelmed to join this prestigious institution.

Working in the field of economic diplomacy, despite my sociology background, provided a unique and insightful experience. Economic diplomacy is increasingly important in foreign policy, promoting an open economy, exports, foreign investment, and tourism.

Under the guidance of Mr. Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary, ED who is a dynamic IFS officer, I worked on a research project titled "Trade, Tourism, and Technology: A Comprehensive Analysis of India's 3T Strategy for Economic Diplomacy." I also contributed to events like the 2023 UNCITRAL South Asia Conference and the 2023 G20 New Delhi summit. I also conducted research, analysis, and compilation work on various reports related to economic diplomacy. These endeavors significantly broadened and deepened my knowledge in this field.

Furthermore, I had the privilege of interacting with various officials within the Ministry of External Affairs, gaining valuable insights from individuals such as Mr. Siddharth Malik, Director, Economic Diplomacy, as well as other IFS officers and consultants. Attending high-level meetings and conferences alongside dignitaries provided me with exposure that was truly invaluable. Field visits complemented this practical exposure, enhancing my understanding.

This internship at MEA was a proud achievement and a transformative experience, shaping my future career. It provided a comprehensive understanding of economic diplomacy, impacting my academic journey significantly.
