This was an extraordinary day.  On May 19th, 2024 we celebrated the 175th Anniversary of the CNJ Rail Road. The Whippany Railroad hosted this celebration for this wonderful railroad. There were train rides every hour heading towards the M&E shops and back to Whippany for the passengers to disembark. Plus on top of all this, there was a special guest at this event. NJT brought their CNJ Heritage unit 4109, an original Gp40-2, to the CNJ Railroad. In this video, you will see most of everything that happened during this wonderful celebration.

Here is a little history of the CNJ.
The Central Railroad of New Jersey, also known as the Jersey Central, Jersey Central Lines or New Jersey Central (reporting mark CNJ), was a Class I railroad with origins in the 1830s. It was absorbed into Conrail in April 1976 along with several other prominent bankrupt railroads of the Northeastern United States.

The CNJ's main line had a major presence in New Jersey. Most of the main line is now used by the Raritan Valley Line passenger service. CNJ main line trackage in Phillipsburg, New Jersey became part of the Lehigh Line under Conrail.
