M9 is a ground-breaking hybrid of 'Ted Talks', a theatre show and a ‘micro’ conference, and designed to be accessible to all Aotearoa, M9 presents nine unique Māori voices in celebration of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori through Whakaaturanga, Whakaari, Whakawhiti Kōrero - Presentation Performance , Conversation.
To celebrate Te Wiki o te reo Māori M9 presented Whiua ki te ao! - Cast the Māori language to the world!
Pere Wihongi (Te Rarawa, Ngapuhi, Ngāti Kuri, Ngāti Wai) has an unmistakable voice, full of power and passion. Pere blends old school Māori soul, with a New Orleans jazz vibe, to create an empowering anthem, full of heart and spirit.
Māori Male Artist of 2019 & composer of Te Reo Māori song of the year ‘Tōrea’, Pere sparks pure delight whilst forging his own pathway in the music industry as the new indigi-kid on the block.
For many, Pere is a familiar face - and voice - as the founding member and co-manager of Māoridom’s current top singing sensation Maimoa, trailblazing Māori music in this modern times and winners of Best Māori Artist 2020.
