This video provides a quick overview of the 4/4 time signature and demonstrates three common beats that beginning drummers should learn: a basic rock beat, a basic jazz beat, and a funk beat (in this case, the funky drummer beat).
The vast majority of songs that are popular in western music are in 4/4 time, so if you can master this time signature then you'll have a head start on playing your favorite songs and creating your own music.
